College unveils £2.2m learning facility

MP among guests to officially open new classrooms and study space

Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College has officially unveiled its brand-new £2.2 million learning facility, marking the college’s commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience for its students.

The new Learning Centre, located between the Sports Hall and the college’s historic Brunner Hall, boasts four modern classrooms, a dedicated staff room, offices and a large study space, offering students an additional quiet area to work independently and the flexibility to host events and talks.

The facility was unveiled during a ceremony on Thursday 27th February, attended by special guests including the MP for Mid Cheshire, Andrew Cooper, local councillors, governors, trustees, staff and students.

Principal Chris Atherton said: “We are delighted to finally be able to show off this wonderful, new learning space, which supports our continued commitment to academic excellence. We believe in equipping our students with the best possible resources to help them succeed, and this new facility will provide them with the ideal environment to thrive academically.

“We’re also proud to be investing in our staff, providing them with the facilities and resources they need to deliver the highest standards of education. This new development is an exciting step forward for the college and will undoubtedly benefit students and staff alike for years to come.”

As well as providing additional learning space, the development also boosts the college’s sustainability credentials, by way of air source heat pumps, providing the heating and cooling functions of the new facility, together with solar panels and LED lighting throughout.

Matt Snelson, Chief Executive of The Sir John Brunner Foundation, said: “This investment offers students a world-class learning environment and further solidifies Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College’s position as the number one sixth form college in the country.”
