Results Day 2023

Sir John Deane’s students buck national trend with high grade success

Students at Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College are celebrating high grade success as the College enjoys yet another set of outstanding A level and BTEC results.

In a year where grades nationally returned to 2019 pre-pandemic levels, 77% of all A level grades awarded to Sir John Deane’s students were A*, A or B, and 46% A* or A, exceeding those set four years ago, which saw the College ranked amongst the top 50 institutions in the country.

There was also good news for BTEC students, with 82% of grades awarded at Distinction and Distinction*.

Principal Christopher Atherton said: “In the year where grades nationally have returned to their 2019 levels, I am incredibly proud that our students have surpassed our remarkable 2019 results.

“These amazing results are a testament to the extra-ordinary hard work of our students and their teachers.”

Amongst the high grades, there are hundreds of individual success stories, with 448 students achieving at least three grades at A*-B and 200 students hitting straight A*- A.

Students have now secured places at some of the UK’s top universities. 33 students have been successful in securing highly competitive places for medicine, veterinary science and dentistry degree courses, while nine students are now set for Oxford and Cambridge universities.

Many students are also now set to kick-start their careers in industry after achieving the grades for a number of highly sought-after degree and higher-level apprenticeships.

Matthew Snelson, CEO of the Sir John Brunner Foundation, added: “These remarkable outcomes stand as a testament to the resolute determination and talent of our students, the expertise and support provided by our dedicated colleagues at Sir John Deane’s and the care and guidance provided by parents and carers. This partnership is at the heart of these achievements.”
